For patients A note before your appointment
Your blood draw,
at home, on
your schedule.
If your physician has referred you to Vena Veritas, here is
what to expect.
01 — The appointment
What to
expect.
Your doctor's office will coordinate the appointment with us
on your behalf. You will hear from us within one business day
of their order. We will confirm a convenient window of time,
usually one to two hours wide, and send a reminder the day
before.
On the day of your appointment, our Director of Phlebotomy
will arrive at your home prepared with everything the draw
requires. Most appointments take 20 to 30 minutes from
arrival to departure, including a few minutes before and
after the draw for conversation and recovery.
Who
A clinician with 25 years of experience.
How long
20 to 30 minutes, start to finish.
Where
Anywhere in your home that is comfortable and well-lit.
02 — Your clinician
Who performs
the draw.
Every Vena Veritas appointment is led by our Director of
Phlebotomy, Melissa Rodriguez. Melissa is a Registered
Medical Assistant with a quarter century of clinical
experience — emergency medicine, surgical pre-op, forensic
phlebotomy, and family practice.
Difficult draws are her specialty. She works confidently with
patients of every age, including those with special needs.

How to prepare.
Your doctor will give you specific instructions, which
supersede anything below. This is a general guide.
Fasting
If your doctor has ordered a fasting panel, do not eat for 8 to 12 hours before your appointment. Water is encouraged. Black coffee is generally acceptable, but check with your doctor.
Hydration
Drink water the evening before and the morning of your appointment. Well-hydrated veins make the draw faster and more comfortable.
Medications
Take your normal medications unless your doctor has instructed otherwise.
At home
Have a comfortable chair ready in a well-lit spot. If you have pets, consider securing them in another room for the duration of the appointment.
04 — After
After your
appointment.
Most patients feel completely normal within minutes. A small
adhesive bandage will cover the draw site. You can remove it
after a few hours. Light bruising at the site is common and
resolves on its own within a few days.
Your results go directly to your doctor's office. They will
reach out to you with the results and next steps on their
usual timeline. Vena Veritas does not provide clinical
interpretation or share results with patients directly.
05 — Privacy & HIPAA
We treat your health information with the same care your
physician's office does. We operate under HIPAA, maintain a
Business Associate Agreement with your physician's practice,
and never share your information outside the care team without
your explicit consent.
06 — Frequently asked
Common
questions.
Will it hurt? + –
A blood draw feels like a brief pinch. Our Director of Phlebotomy is known among her patients for draws so gentle they are often over before people realize.
I have difficult veins. Does that matter? + –
Difficult veins are our specialty. Melissa has 25 years of experience with patients whose veins are small, rolling, scarred from prior treatment, or otherwise challenging. If a second attempt is ever needed, she will talk you through it first.
What if I feel faint during the draw? + –
Let your clinician know. She has seen every variation of this and will adjust, including performing the draw while you lie down if that is more comfortable.
Can I have someone with me during the appointment? + –
Absolutely. A family member, caregiver, or friend is welcome to stay with you during the draw.
How do I reschedule or cancel? + –
You can reschedule or cancel your appointment via the link in the confirmation email or text you received. We ask for as much notice as possible so we can offer the slot to another patient.
Will I be billed for this? + –
Billing is arranged between Vena Veritas and your physician's practice. You will either be billed by your practice as part of your membership or concierge arrangement, or receive a statement from Vena Veritas directly, depending on how your practice has set it up.
A final note
Appointments are coordinated
through your doctor's office.
We do not book appointments directly with patients. If you
have questions about scheduling, billing, or the service itself
that your doctor's office cannot answer, they can reach us on
your behalf.
